Frequently asked questions

How much spice does a jar hold?

It depends on the spice, because they differ in density. A 200 ml jar holds about 100 g of ground spice, about 85 g of seed, and about 15 g of bay leaves. The exact weight is listed on each product page under the size you choose.

Which jar size should I buy?

Buy 400 ml for haldi, masala, jeera and dhania. Buy 200 ml for everything else, and for anything ground, which loses its aroma faster than whole spice does.

How long do the spices keep?

Ground spices are at their best for about six months and remain usable for a year. Whole spices keep their aroma for two to three years. Neither becomes unsafe — they fade, which is a different problem, and the reason we sell refills.

Can I put the jars in the dishwasher?

Yes. The glass and the labels are both dishwasher-safe. Dry the jar completely before refilling; any moisture will clump the spice.

Do you sell refills for jars I already own?

Yes. Every spice is available as a 200 ml refill pouch from R 65. See The Refill Club.

Can I choose the spices in a gift box?

Yes. Choose Build Your Own Box and list your spices in the order notes at checkout. The smallest box holds three jars.

Is there a card in the gift box?

Yes, handwritten, at no charge. Tell us at checkout what it should say.

Are the spices halaal?

[PLACEHOLDER — confirm halaal certification status and certifying body.]

Do the blends contain salt or preservatives?

[PLACEHOLDER — confirm blend ingredients, salt content and any anti-caking agents, so this can be answered precisely.]
